We are all now living in unprecedented times and COVID19 Health and Safety is something every single business is having to embrace to protect all stakeholders including employees, customers and suppliers.

As an employer there is a duty of care for you to manage the risk of COVID19 and this includes identifying any risks within the organisation and managing them accordingly in line with government legislation and advice from the Health & Safety Executive (See HSE statement below).

In order to re-open and operate your business, you need to feel comfortable that you can do this safely and consider all possible risks with a well thought out plan to address any possible areas of concern.

You may need to rethink how your business model can continue in these unprecedented times and put a robust business continuity plan in place in order to demonstrate to stakeholders they can continue their operations in event of a further pandemic.

COVID19 Health and Safety Executive (HSE) Statement

In these extraordinary times, HSE is constantly reviewing the fast-moving situation with their partners across government to support the national effort to tackle COVID-19.

While social distancing is fundamentally a public health measure introduced to reduce the spread of infection, they recognise the concerns raised on social distancing within the workplace and are in contact with trade unions.

Where HSE identifies employers who are not taking action to comply with the relevant public health legislation and guidance to control public health risks, eg employers not taking appropriate action to socially distance or ensure workers in the shielded category can follow the NHS advice to self-isolate for the period specified, they will consider taking a range of actions to improve control of workplace risks. These actions include the provision of specific advice to employers through to issuing enforcement notices to help secure improvements with the guidance.
